The Stonewall Fund: LGBTQ Initiatives

DONATE ("Stonewall" in Special Instructions)

The Stonewall Fund is a collaboration between the Gender Equity Resource Center and the Cal Alumni Association to better facilitate alumni giving to campus LGBTQ initiatives. The Stonewall Fund will improve campus life for LGBTQ students through the establishment of an emergency fund, the growth of the Pride Scholarship, and evolving paid campus leadership internships for LGBTQ students.

Why “Stonewall”?

The Stonewall Uprising occurred on the night of June 28, 1969 where members of the LGBTQ community fought against police violence being inflicted upon our communities. With this fundraiser, we are recognizing the legacies of those who fought at Stonewall and what they fought for; namely for the security and safety of all LGBTQ individuals. Following the examples of trans women of color such as Marsha P. Johnson and Sylvia Rivera (who founded Street Transvestite Action Revolutionaries), money raised through The Stonewall Fund will be donated to help those LGBTQ studentsthat are most in need and enhance the vibrancy in our campus LGBTQ communities.

Emergency Fund Grant

This fund will assist those LGBTQ students who face economic hardship due to family trauma (e.g. being disowned), or have encountered other financial hardships that might immediately interrupt their ability to continue their academic studies.

Paid Leadership Internships

This will fund paid leadership internships, some currently in the Gender Equity Resource Center. This will increase the advantages for our LGBTQ students who wish to gain better knowledge and skills associated with planning events, engaging alumni, and other work-life skills. There is a strong advantage to students having on campus jobs that benefit their overall academic experience.

Leadership Scholarships

The Cal Pride Scholarship is a one-year, merit-based award that recognizes Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors at UC Berkeley and incoming transfer students for academic achievement, leadership, and community involvement, as well as their contribution to the LGBT community. Previous recipients of the Cal Pride Scholarship are not eligible to re-apply.
